Fine Art Painter
I find myself working between one series of paintings and another, often revisiting past work and combining these to develop and transcribe an aesthetic. This is achieved through attention to accidental constructed compositions found within our quotidian landscape, whether it be the contents of a skip, recycling cage, or window. These serve to articulate a quiet tension between internal and external spaces, through the play between figurative and literal.
Most recently, images are used and manipulated by cropping to form selected references from which the work is made that consider the formal qualities that are in our immediate environment. Paint is used as a vehicle to transcribe these to the surface in which the intention is to bring these to the forefront of discussion. I ask us to observe and question the relationships between the unseen formalities that surround us in our everyday.
The results are quiet and meta, they could be seen as self-referential work about work, or paint about paint.
